How do you get sales on Upwork? The most important thing that you need to know when trying to get sales on Upwork is that Upwork is queued in the favor of the buyer.
The people who are offering services on Upwork and people who are selling on Upwork, there is an imbalance there. There are more people looking for jobs than people offering jobs.
If you are above average, this is no longer the case and suddenly you are more in demand than there is supply. So, the very first thing you need to know is make yourself less available. What do I mean by that? You need to make it so that people come to you and they are asking you to work with them instead of you begging for a job.
How do you do this? This is done in multiple levels. The first level is that the title of your profile, the content on your profile and your profile video all need to be highly targeted to the people who are buying.
It needs to talk to them in a personal manner. Most of you will write a super complicated professional sounding stuff on their profile and what happens is the buyers are like “Oh, it is just one of those guys” and they do not read your profile.
If you write to them personally and you address them personally as if you are writing to your mother and just talk to them normally, telling them what you can do for them and what you have done for others, if you follow this formula, then suddenly your profile becomes a lot more appealing and people come to you.
This extends to the sales calls and any email attractions or anything else you are going to do. It needs to be always the frame of you choosing the clients you want to work with and they need to apply to work with you.
As opposed to the guys begging for jobs and offering discounts – those guys will not get the clients. You, who is choosing who you work with even if you are just starting out, you are the one who is going to get the clients.
The next thing you need to know when selling to clients on Upwork and other freelancing websites is you need to actually understand what they want, because usually they do not understand what they want. They do not understand what they need. You need to help them determine exactly what it is that they actually want.
You need to find out why they are looking for it, what is the reason behind it. Maybe they are looking to grow their business so they can be with their family more, you need to really deeply understand the person you are talking to.
Ask them a lot of questions, you need to be asking a lot more questions than talking, listen to them and give them feedback on what they are telling you.
A lot of people get on a phone call with a potential client on Upwork, and by the way, yes, you need to do phone calls with every single person not just text obviously.
So, a lot of people get on a call with them and they just want to try to push their gender and use those weird sales techniques that do not work. You need to actually listen to the human being and help them determine what they actually need, give them feedback, give them advice and care about what they want.
The third thing is that you need to do to get sales on Upwork and other freelancing websites. You need to feedback to them what they told you that they want and relate that to your product.
