We are not really sure if we can afford this place or not, but we really like the theory behind the place. Jenny is really loving the fact that it is probably a five minute drive from this place to her office. It would be about twice that far to the shop, but it is not going to be as tough a trip for me as what I have now. I can skate in through the backroads and obviously you are not going to hit much traffic like that. The house was moved from it's original site to this lot a couple of years ago. Apparently the power company wanted to build a substation on the land that it had been seated upon, or something like that. So they bought the place and pretty much gave it to the guy who moved it to this location. It was originally about a mile and a half from where it is now, or that is what this guy told me.

In fact this place is on what used to be a little ranch and there is a nice little four acre lake back behind the place. The guy could see that I wanted to throw a line out there and see if anything bit, so he and went down there with a couple of bait casting rods. He has a minnow tank and this little pond is not a safe place for a shiner. It is full of pan sized crappie and small mouth bass. So if you stick shiner out there on a cork it is not too long before you get some action. Of course a bunch of these fish have been caught and thrown back over and over. This is something you can tell after you catch them a few times.

With the abundance of natural resources found in Texas, it's no surprise that I continue to live here. You might be thinking that is an absurd reason to live anywhere but after living in several states whom have all been incredibly expensive to live in. It's rather surprising to notice these differences in our states. As someone who is trying to save as much money as possible, I needed to find a place that was going to have a thriving industry in my chosen field of work as well as an infrastructure that would allow me to live cheaply without sacrificing too much.

This is what Texas has been able to provide for me. With great neighborhoods that I can call home, I've found an apartment that is over 1,000sqft but under $600 a month! That's huge: I've never lived in a state that ahd such cheap apartments before. At least, apartments that were not somewhere in the lower income end of town (the ghetto, I mean). Compared to, say, Indiana (the state I last called home), I'm saving over $750 a month in rent and utilities alone. My utility bill is $85 cheaper on average; sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

For many Americans that $85 can make or break them. I may not be struggling as many other Americans are but I find myself in a situation where losing even $100 a month can drastically alter my financial plan. This is merely the reality of the situation that I have to face and accept. It's not easy knowing that your financial footing is technically on such fragile ground but with smart planning and clever savings, a lot of stress can be mitigated if not out right avoided entirely. It can be difficult but it can be done if you're willing to travel.
